You may have already seen director Lee Thongkham's supernatural horror film The Maid, as the Thai production was released through the Netflix streaming service last July – making it the first Thai Netflix original. But if you don't have a Netflix subscription or you've been waiting for the chance to pick up a physical media copy of The Maid, we have some good news to share today. A year after its Netflix debut, The Maid is set to get a limited theatrical release on July 16th. A VOD release will follow on July 20th, and then The Maid is set to reach Blu-ray on August 17th.
A new trailer has been released online to promote these upcoming new stages in the release of The Maid, and you can check that out in the embed above. The film's poster art can be seen below.
Scripted by Piyaluk Tuntisrisakul from a story by Thongkham, The Maid has the following synopsis:
Joy, a young woman from the country is hired as the new maid of a royal house, replacing the previous maid who disappeared under mysterious circumstances. One night, she encounters the maid who is haunting and terrorizing the family. Joy works to uncover the reason behind the former maid’s disappearance.
Savika Chaiyadej, Theerapat Sajakul, and Ploy Sornarin star.
I've been missing out on The Maid during its time on Netflix, but the trailer does make it look promising. It appears to be quite crazy and creepy, and best of all, one of the residents of this royal house is a monkey who wears suits. That image alone has convinced me that I need to watch The Maid.
Have you watched The Maid on Netflix? If so, do you think it's worth picking up on Blu-ray? Let us know your thoughts on this film by leaving a comment below.
