Production on the much-anticipated Aquaman sequel is slated to kick off later this year, and it would seem that director James Wan has revealed the title of the film. In an Instagram post for an Aquaman production meeting, Wan shared several photos which prominently display the title — Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. I like it.
Jason Momoa will naturally be returning to star in the sequel, which will be directed and produced by James Wan with David Leslie Johnson McGoldrick writing the script. Despite rumours that she wouldn't be returning, it's expected that Amber Heard will also be returning for the Aquaman sequel, and it was announced earlier this year that Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones) had signed on as well. Patrick Wilson has also hinted that he will be return as Orm, as he was shown getting back into Ocean Master shape two months ago.
James Wan has previously teased that the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will once again contain a touch of horror. "I would say yes. Just like the first movie had a touch of my horror sensibility in it, in regards to the Trench sequence, I would say there'll be a little bit of that in this next one," Wan explained. "I think it's something that's a big part of who I am, and it just naturally comes out in these kinds of films. And especially a movie like Aquaman, you know where the story takes place in these underwater worlds that can be very scary. So naturally, my love for the horror genre just means that I latch myself to these scenes and try to give them a little bit more of my scary sauce." Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will hit theaters on December 16, 2022.
