Update: Lionsgate has shared the first look cast image from the upcoming Borderlands film. Beginning from left to right, the new photo features Florian Munteanu as Krieg, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Patricia Tannis, Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Kevin Hart as Roland, and Jack Black as the voice of Claptrap.

You can check out the official image below:

While Borderlands fans are undoubtedly waiting for the lights to come up so we can get a better look at each character, it does feel like Roth has gone to great efforts to remain true to the source material. Granted they're just silhouettes for now, but I've played enough Borderlands in my day to recognize quality when I can kinda see it. With any luck, all will be revealed soon, and the Borderlands community will be pleased with what they see.

Original Article:

Earlier this week we got our first look at Cate Blanchett as Lilith in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Gearbox Software's best-selling Borderlands video-game franchise. Unfortunately, it wasn't the best first look at the character as Lilith was merely seen in silhouette, but it would seem that's the vibe Lionsgate is going for as they've now released similar silhouetted first looks at Roland (Kevin Hart), Dr. Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), Krieg (Florian Munteanu), and Claptrap (Jack Black). Check 'em out below!

The Borderlands movie is being helmed by Eli Roth from a script he co-wrote with Craig Mazin, and as I mentioned in the Lilith article, my knowledge of the video-game series is pretty much non-existent, so I really have no idea of what to expect, but it does seem like it could be fun.

The official synopsis for Borderlands:

Lilith (Blanchett), an infamous treasure hunter with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of Atlas (Edgar Ramirez), the universe’s most powerful S.O.B. She forms an unexpected alliance with a ragtag team of misfits – Roland (Hart), once a highly respected soldier, but now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Florian Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis (Curtis), the scientist who’s seen it all; and Claptrap (Black), a persistently wiseass robot. These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other. Based on one of the best selling videogame franchises of all time, welcome to Borderlands.

Borderlands doesn't have an official release date yet, but is expected to hit theaters in 2022.
