Check out the haunting and bone-chilling trailer for The Lodge

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

THE LODGE follows Grace (Riley Keough), a soon-to-be stepmom who is snowed in with her fiancé's two children at a remote holiday village. Now, it would be easy to imagine that brief synopsis serving as the premise for a comedy where the two children give their new stepmom an increasingly difficult time before realizing, hey, she's not so bad. Cue the heart-warming family-friendly orchestra. THE LODGE is definitely not that kind of film and the new trailer lays out some bone-chilling frights.

Our own Chris Bumbray caught THE LODGE when it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. In his review, Bumbray praised directors Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala for expertly building tension right off the bat, where an "unexpected twist lets us know all bets are off and that anything can happen." It seems that THE LODGE is in the same vein of "elevated horror" as HEREDITARY as Bumbray says that the only way to watch the film is not knowing its various twists and turns. "Suffice to say, THE LODGE is a terrific nail-bitter, and gives Keough the chance to sink her teeth into a part that both takes advantage of her ethereal quality, but also allows her to play someone who’s deeply human, making her the kind of horror figure you may alternately fear and empathize with," Bumbray said.

THE LODGE is slated to hit theaters later this year.
