Gotham’s crimson Caped Crusader returns in the new Batwoman teaser trailer

You've heard of the Dark Knight, the Boy Wonder, and the Terror that Flaps in the Night, but have you met Gotham's Crimson Crusader, Batwoman? After making her debut in the Arrowverse crossover "Elseworlds," The CW ordered a pilot for Kate Kane, aka Batwoman, to star in her own series. Then, yesterday, The CW revealed that BATWOMAN was getting a full season! 

The out and proud LGBTQA+ superhero received the first teaser for her upcoming adventures late yesterday evening, giving fans of the character a glorious look at the latest member of the Bat-family to be featured in her own episodic adventures on the small screen. Regardless of the teaser leaving much to the imaginiation, it serves as a powerful reminder that ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK and JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2 actress Ruby Rose is more than ready to give criminals what for as her city's latest protector.

Serving as showrunner for BATWOMAN is Caroline Dries (THE VAMPIRE DIARIES), with Greg Berlanti acting as executive producer of the series. The pilot episode will be helmed by Marcos Siega as opposed to David Nutter, who in the past has introduced DC fans of The CW network to both ARROW and THE FLASH.

Here's the official logline for BATWOMAN:

Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane [Rose] soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

With ARROW coming to a close next year, and other CW superhero shows getting a little long in the tooth, it stands to reason that Batwoman could serve as the herald of a new era of comic book entertainment for the niche network. I say bring it on, as Batwoman has been one of my favorite characters of DC's publishing arm since the character's DC New 52 relaunch in 2012. Criminals beware, because the CW's DC landscape is about to get a brand new bat.
