The TERMINATOR series has been in need of a quality boost for some time, and Tim Miller, James Cameron and their team are hoping to give it that adrenaline shot with TERMINATOR: DARK FATE. While some footage was shown at CinemaCon which teased a promising sixth outing the rest of us have yet to see that goodness. That could be changing soon as Miller himself says they’re almost ready to show off their first look at the new sci-fi-action flick.

The director and his team are hard at work from the editing bay of DARK FATE, but he took a small break to snap a photo of star Linda Hamilton, who is on screen rocking the return of Sarah Connor and holding what looks like some sort of bazooka. Coming via the movie’s Twitter page, Miller also issued a quote saying, “I like to spend every #TerminatorDay in a dark room thinking dark thoughts & our edit bay is the perfect place! We're here putting the finishing touches on our FIRST TRAILER-we're just weeks away from releasing this fucker into the wild & we're very, very excited.”

Weeks away could put the trailer to debut near the release of ROCKETMAN, the next major movie from Paramount, and while it may not appeal to the same crowd, that also comes one week before DARK PHOENIX, which certainly has a similar audience makeup. With a November 1 release date and a ton of hype behind it it’s getting to be that point where the first teaser material beyond a few photos start leaking out, especially if they want to get people who have lost faith in the series excited. They may need quite some convincing, as the last movie, TERMINATOR: GENYSIS, did even worse at the box office and with critics than the one before it, TERMINATOR: SALVATION.
When he was at CinemaCon our own Paul Shirey was able to see that footage and offered up a quick description of what he saw. That included the "time-travel blue electrical thing" emerge near an overpass in Mexico City with a Mackenzie Davis' character falling out of it. She proceeds to beat down a few cops who were trying to arrest her, only to say something ominous to a young couple. Then there are cuts to Gabriel Luna's Terminator character, teasing a T-1000-style metallic-metal look. There are also glimpses at Hamilton and returning series honcho Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is, indeed, back.
