After bursting onto the scene as one half of the New Zealand folk duo Flight of the Conchords, Jemaine Clement, alongside his musical partner Bret McKenzie, established himself as a comedic talent to watch. In the years to follow, Clement co-wrote and co-directed the mockumentary horror comedy WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS with his film partner Taika Waititi. After audiences took a bite out of Clement's rib-tickling vampire satire, he was asked to join a series of projects, including TRIPTANK, Noah Hawley's LEGION, and MILO MURPHY'S LAW, among others. Now, with a co-creator credit on FX's new comedy series, WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS, and a role for director Tim Mielants' DE PATRICK in the bag, it's been reported that Clement will join the cast of James Cameron's AVATAR films.
Upon signing on to the high-profile franchise, Clement has agreed to play marine biologist Dr. Ian Garvin for the upcoming sequels. “I’ve loved Jemaine’s work for years and I’m really pumped that he’s joining our cast as Ian Garvin, one of my favorite characters,” said Cameron about working with New Zealand's Swiss-army knife of talent.
Directed and co-written by James Cameron alongside scibes Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno, the TITANIC director's first of four sequels to his 2009 high-fantasy action adventure will star Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Oona Chaplin, Kate Winslet, Sam Worthington, Michelle Yeoh, Giovanni Ribisi, Sigourney Weaver, David Thewlis, Stephen Lang, Edie Falco, and Cliff Curtis, among many others. Expected for a December 17, 2021 release, Cameron has remained tight-lipped about the plot details related to his AVATAR sequels, though it's been confirmed that when the franchise returns, audiences can expect plenty of surprises upon entering to the lush, danger-ridden world of Pandora.
