A water bottle was indeed spotted in Game of Thrones’ final episode

Last night HBO aired their final episode of GAME OF THRONES, George R.R. Martin's action fantasy epic that for the past eight years has captured the hearts and minds of millions across pop culture's broad spectrum. For many, the episode delivered a satisfying conclusion, as a selection of fan-favorite characters survived the journey with plenty more of their own stories left to tell. To be clear, we've reach the end of an era in entertainment for sure … and yet here we are getting ready to talk about a water bottle that we left on camera during one of the episode's more pivotal moments. Sigh.

Let's rewind for a moment, shall we?

Two weeks ago, eagle-eyed GAME OF THRONES viewers spotted a coffee cup on the set of the show's  "The Last of the Starks" episode. As one would suspect, the internet got their eager fangs into the gaffe and went to town via memes and social media roasts. It wasn't the show's finest moment, especially since the cup was spotted against the grim atmosphere of Winterfell. In other words, it really stood out. HBO later joked about their honest mistake by saying “The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake. Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea.” Shortly thereafter, the coffee cup hulabaloo died down, much like anything else with a 15-second internet lifespan.

Now, fast-forward to last night, and let's set the scene:

King's Landing has fallen. Daenerys has been murdered by Jon Snow. And Tyrion has been taken prisoner by Greyworm and his men. Around the 46-minute mark, when Tyrion is approaching the Lords and Ladies of Westeros, awaiting their judgement, there is a shot of Samwell … and his plastic water bottle. Womp womp!

Naturally, social media has already descended on the gaffee, working that meme machine like it owes them money and adding the filming faux pas to their list of complaints about the finale. Personally, I'm well aware that these things happen, and until y'all pointed it out to me I didn't even notice the coffee cup or the plastic bottle of water. I suppose that it won't be long now until HBO issues another self-burn on the production team's behalf. At least this is the last time we'll have to hear about it, right? Well, I suppose until someone spots an iPhone in the premiere episode of HBO's inevitable Arya Stark spin-off, yeah? Look, all I'm saying is that if I were meant to choose the next leader of the Seven Kingdoms (now six), my throat would get parched too.
