What did you think of…Godzilla: King of the Monsters?

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

It's been five years since Gareth Edwards' GODZILLA roared into theaters with a mostly warm reception, albeit with the common complaint that there simply wasn't enough monsters. With Edwards using the slow-burn reveal throughout, the film left many audiences (myself included) feeling like there was a ton of potential and great leaps forward in many areas, but it just wasn't the slam dunk it could've been. Of course, some disagree and love the film, but the sequel has stepped things up in a big way, including not only more time with the main big guy, but also with three more classic Toho kaiju, including King Ghidorah, Rodan and Mothra. Directed by TRICK R' TREAT and KRAMPUS director Michael Dougherty, GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS has assembled a monstrous cast, including Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, Zhang Ziyi, Bradley Whitford, David Strathairn, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Thomas Middleditch, Aisha Hinds and Charles Dance.

Thus far, critics seem to be mixed on the film, earning it a 41% rotten on RT, but audiences seem to be eating it up with a 90% score in that arena, so it seems that the people are having a much better time than us stuffy ol' critics. Oh, hey, wait a minute, that's not me, 'cause I loved this damn movie! You can check out my 9/10 review to get the full picture, but I'm leaving you with this pull quote: "If you're looking for a true summer movie spectacle, you can't do much better than GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS. This is the kind of epic kaiju movie you've been waiting for that delivers on all fronts, leaving you with the rollercoaster satisfaction of a ride well spent." Put it on the blu-ray box.

And with that, now it's your turn! We want to hear what YOU thought of the film! Naturally, we'd prefer you to comment only if you've seen the film as that's the point here, but do what feels good. Just don't get mad if you get trounced for trolling or posting blatant spoilers in headlines. Healthy debate, genuine thoughts, and respectful interactions is all we ask.

Is GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS the kaiju movie you've been waiting for or did it learn all the wrong lessons from the last film?
