What slow news day? Prior to the release of HALLOWEEN last October, Blumhouse Productions' Jason Blum said that they weren't "going to decide if we do a sequel or not until we see the reaction to this movie." Given that the film was quite the success both critically and commercially, it's more than likely that we haven't seen the last of Michael Myers.
Jason Blum posted a photo on Twitter earlier today of Jamie Lee Curtis and himself, with the caption teasing, "we're discussing stuff." Now, the stuff in question could be anything, but given that Curtis is holding an action figure of Laurie Strode, there's every possibility that they're discussing the next HALLOWEEN film.

HALLOWEEN co-writer Danny McBride had previously teased that they already had a few ideas of where they want to go with the sequel.
We definitely have ideas of what we would do. I think we did not allow ourselves to really indulge those ideas until the movie came out. We just wanted to put all our hopes and dreams in having this film stick the landing. But we do have thoughts and ideas of what we could possibly do. We hadn’t invested a ton of time on them, but now we’re being asked to figure it out. There are definitely talks on whether we will do more of them and we’re just trying to see what best makes sense.
In fact, Danny McBride and director/co-writer David Gordan Green initially had so many ideas for the film that they came close to pitching not one, but two HALLOWEEN films. "We were going to shoot two of them back-to-back. Then we were like, Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves. This could come out, and everyone could hate us, and we'd never work again. So, let's not have to sit around for a year while we wait for another movie to come out that we know people aren't going to like," McBride said. "So, we were like, Let's learn from this, and see what works, and what doesn't. But we definitely have an idea of where we would go [with] this branch of the story and hopefully we get a chance to do it." Back in February it was revealed that Scott Teems had reportedly been hired to write the script based on a "well-liked" treatment which he had already written for the sequel. The same report also claimed that Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak were expected to reprise their roles.
