Alright everyone, don't panic! Word has traveled across the cosmos that Hulu is developing a TV series adaptation of Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy! Go ahead, I'll give you a moment to grab a blanket before we discuss the details any further. You good? Okay.
Heading up the project are Carlton Cuse (LOST, LOCKE & KEY) and WONDER WOMAN writer Jason Fuchs. The project is a product of ABC Signature, the cable/streaming arm of ABC Studios where Cuse's Genre Arts shingle has an overall deal.
Often hailed by many as one of the single greatest contributions to sci-fi literature, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy began as a comedy radio series and rose to even greater heights as a beloved series of novels. The literary series has been translated into over 30 languages, making the misadventures of Arthur Dent a cultural touchstone across the globe.
With regard to story, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy centers around a bumbling Englishman by the name of Arthur Dent, who after the destruction of the Earth by the Vogons, is made to endure the fallout while traveling alongside a band of interplanetary misfit companions.
Cuse and Fuchs will write the series in addition to executive producing the would-be series.
If you're hankering for a taste of Arthur's bizarre journey, why not check out director Garth Jenning's 2005 feature adaptation of the story starring Marvel alum Martin Freeman as Arthur Dent? The film features an all-star cast, with Stephen Fry, Warwick Davis, Sam Rockwell, John Malkovich, Bill Nighy, Zooey Deschanel, and the late (and great) Alan Rickman all co-starring for the madcap mission to carry on after our beloved planet goes kersplat.
