Earlier this year it was revealed that writer/director/producer duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller had inked a major deal with Sony Pictures TV to develop live-action comedy and drama series for the network, as well as animated works, including a "suite of TV series based on Sony’s Universe of Marvel characters, referred to as Spider-verse." While speaking with Deadline at the Television Critics Associations summer press-tour, Christopher Miller dropped several small tidbits about their grand plans.

"We are developing a handful of live-action shows using Sony’s Marvel characters, of which there are like 900 characters," Miller said. "We’re figuring out a way to develop the shows so that each are their own unique experience but are also related." As it had been thought that the Spider-Man shows in question would be animated, Miller saying "live action" is rather interesting (and exciting). "We’ve been talking to a lot of potential teammates for trying to do something not like anything else that’s been done on television," Miller continued. "It’ll be a little while before it all comes together and is on the air, but I think it is going to be something really special." An interconnected TV universe is something which has been done before, but Christopher Miller seems confident that this will be different. Time will tell. As for where these shows will end up, Miller wouldn't confirm anything, only saying that they'll hopefully know something in the next few months.

As far as the big-screen goes, development is underway on a sequel to SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE which will continue the story of Miles Morales, but Sony also got the ball rolling on a spin-off which will focus on Spider-Women such as Spider-Gwen, Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, Cindy Moon/Silk, and potentially more.
