Back in May filmmaker Bong Joon-ho (SNOWPIERCER, OKJA) made waves with his new movie, PARASITE, which debuted at the Cannes film festival and won the coveted Palme d’Or, instantly putting the movie on even more radars than it was before. Now you can get a glimpse at what everyone was raving about out of the festival, as the first trailer is here teasing the intense, gripping story that tackles complex social issues of class and status.

Written by Joon-ho and Han Jin-won, the movie centers on the impoverished Kim family (played by Song Kang-ho, Jang Hye-jin, Choi Woo-shik, and Park So-dam) as they begin to work their way into the good graces of the wealthy Park family (played by Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Jung Ji-so and Jung Hyun-joon). The movie seems to start off as a straight, expected study of two families on opposite sides of the class spectrum, but the eerie music cue hints at something far more sinister lurking beneath the surface. As the glowing reviews that flash on screen suggest, there’s far more going on here than audiences will expect, and clearly, it was all enough for people who saw it to hail it as one of the best of year.
Here's the synopsis:
Meet the Park Family: the picture of aspirational wealth. And the Kim Family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kims sense a golden opportunity. Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. The Kims provide "indispensable" luxury services while the Parks give the Kims a way out of their shabby circumstances. But this new ecosystem is fragile, and soon enough greed and class prejudice threaten to upend the Kims' newfound comfort.
PARASITE is due for theaters later this year.
