Bob Odenkirk reveals the Breaking Bad movie has already been shot

While the series BETTER CALL SAUL has provided fans of BREAKING BAD a spinoff they can dig their teeth into, news of a movie sequel to the original series offered another level of excitement we didn’t know we needed. There has been a lot of speculation over both where the movie could go and when we will see the damn thing, and while speculation trains may be chugging Saul himself, Bob Odenkirk, recently confirmed one neat little fact: The movie has already been shot.

Hot off another Emmy nomination for his performance in SAUL, Odenkirk sat down with THR to talk about the show and the impending fifth season, which they are filming right now. During the discussion, the topic came to the BB movie, and Odenkirk said they’ve done an incredible job keeping the project so secret. So secret, in fact, that nobody knows they’ve already filmed the thing.

 “I’ve heard so many different things about it, but I am excited about the ‘Breaking Bad’ movie. I can’t wait to see it. I don’t know what people know and don’t know. I find it hard to believe you don’t know it was shot. They did it. You know what I mean? How is that a secret? But it is. They’ve done an amazing job of keeping it a secret.”

There have been very few details confirmed about the BB movie (again, super-secret), with a lot of speculation going around about it centering on Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), who escaped captivity at the end of the series finale. But there have also been reports about the return of Walter White (Bryan Cranston), which is curious given he died at the end of the finale. Then that starts speculation about — should Cranston return as White — the character coming back as haunting visions for Pinkman, who may have trouble shaking off the history he has with his former meth-dealing partner. But, again, who knows. 

As for what route the movie will actually take, we will just have to wait and see. But if Odenkirk is right in saying this thing is practically in the can already, then it may not be long before we get a first look at the project. Word is that it will air on Netflix first before going onto AMC (the show's original network), and Netflix does like to drop surprise bombs when it comes to promotion. Will this be something that we get the first glimpse of two weeks before it hits Netflix? Marketing, bitch!
