MAJOR SPOILERS for TOY STORY 4. Be warned. After TOY STORY 3 seemingly wrapped up the critically acclaimed Pixar franchise, I was understandably concerned when a fourth film was announced. How could they possibly hope to top what came before? Well, I shouldn't have worried as Pixar managed to pull another emotionally-charged rabbit out of their hat with TOY STORY 4, which gave Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), and the rest of the toys the conclusion they deserved, but an alternate ending could have left the characters in a much different place.
The alternate ending seen above, originally posted by Entertainment Weekly, gives a much different conclusion for Woody and Bo-Peep (Annie Potts). As we know, TOY STORY 4 came to an end with Woody making the choice to say goodbye to his longtime friends in favour of staying with Bo-Peep, realizing that he can live a fulfilling life without an "owner," a sentiment Bo-Peep shares. This alternate ending turns that philosophy on its head when Bo-Peep suddenly connects with a child and decides to leave with her. Woody, who has bid all his pals goodbye, is left alone. It's a bit of a downer, not to mention flying in the face of the entire arc of the film.
TOY STORY 4 will hit Digital on October 1, 2019, followed by a DVD/Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD release on October 8, 2019.
