Gemini Man featurette focuses on the visionary next-level spectacle

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The first reactions to Ang Lee's GEMINI MAN dropped earlier this week and were surprisingly positive, with many praising the sci-fi/action flick as something of a technical marvel which really needs to be seen on the big-screen. GEMINI MAN centers on Henry Brogan (Will Smith), an aging government assassin who finds himself going up against a young operative who's able to predict his every move. It turns out that this new assassin is actually a younger clone of himself named Junior, and Henry must uncover the truth behind Junior's creation in order to save him from going down the same dark path. Paramount Pictures has released a new featurette which dives into the visual spectacle of the film which was shot digitally in 3D at a high-frame-rate of 120fps.

Although director Ang Lee believes that this gives films a more immersive experience, he knows that it's not for everyone. That said, he told Variety that he's committed to experimenting with the process and believes it to be the future of film-making, provided that directors don't continue treating it like film. "I’ll continue to chase the aesthetic of digital cinema," said Lee. "It has an aesthetic that’s worth grasping. We’ve been imitating film and that’s not right. You can use it as a reference, but it’s a different medium."
