The world of politics is savage and crazy, and it’s probably not the best place to be for someone still trying to figure out high school. But too bad for Ben Platt’s character, Payton Hobart, in the new Netflix series THE POLITICIAN from creator Ryan Murphy, because he’s about to leap right into it all before he even graduates grade school. In the new teaser, we get a sense of the craziness waiting for Payton, as a cast of characters played by Gwyneth Paltrow, Dylan McDermott, Jessica Lange, Judith Light and Bette Midler stress the importance of winning at any cost…and all while wearing some excellent attire.

The first Netflix series from Murphy as part of a huge overall deal, the story centers on Hobart, a high school student who has determined he will indeed become president of the United States one day – but first must become class president before going on to Harvard. Along with the aforementioned names, the show will also star January Jones, Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, Theo Germaine and Bob Balaban. If the rapid-fire pacing of the trailer means anything it's that Murphy is going for a zany, colorful approach to the political comedy game, and all coming from a wild cast, which when it comes to bingeable content, may make for an excellent concoction.
This is just the first of Murphy's new work for Netflix and has two more on the docket. One is the series HOLLYWOOD starring Patti LuPone and Darren Criss, and the other is RATCHED starring Sarah Paulson, which centers on the villainous Nurse Ratchet from the Ken Kesey story, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST (played by Louise Fletcher in the 1975 film). This is all just more from Murphy on his way to complete global domination, where he will first have to compete to the death on a mighty mountaintop against Shonda Rhimes.
THE POLITICIAN is on Netflix starting September 27.
