Guy Ritchie has spent a lot of time working in the blockbuster arena over the years, making movies like SHERLOCK HOLMES, KING ARTHUR, and this year’s billion-dollar ALADDIN. But with his new movie THE GENTLEMEN he’s returning the world of the slick, funny English crime stories that put him on the radar (LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS, SNATCH), and in the first trailer you can see the director is right back at home, and with a cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Colin Farrell, Henry Golding, Charlie Hunnam, Hugh Grant and more.

Fleshing out the cast are Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong and Eddie Marsan, and they all seem to be having a blast. The trailer shows off some of the sleeker action Ritchie has honed since his SHERLOCK days, while also showcasing that fast-paced dialogue that brings the seedy characters to life. Fans of Ritchie's earlier work are probably more than game for this new one from the director, who does seem to be back in his proper element after working with bloated budgets over the years. Granted, MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. also had it's a fair share of style, but until he gets to make a sequel to that gem, I will happily do with THE GENTLEMEN.
THE GENTLEMEN is in theaters January 24, 2020.
