Based upon Kathleen Barber's novel "Are You Sleeping," the upcoming Apple TV+ thriller series Truth Be Told centers on podcaster Poppy Parnell (Octavia Spencer). Nearly two decades after helping to put Warren Cave (Aaron Paul) behind bars for the murder of his father, Poppy is forced to re-examine the case when new evidence comes to light. Is Warren innocent? If so, who really killed his father? Cue the mystery. Apple has released the trailer for Truth Be Told, which looks to be something of an acting showcase for Octavia Spencer and Aaron Paul. Count me in.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Truth Be Told creator Nichelle Tramble Spellman said, "It’s a crime drama centered on the ripple effect in families when they’re touched by crime." Spencer added that her character "has to examine if she helped put an innocent boy in prison. We’re exploring the consequences when the pursuit of justice is on a public stage."

The official synopsis for Truth Be Told:

Every truth has a consequence. When new evidence compels podcaster Poppy Parnell (Octavia Spencer) to reopen the murder case that made her a national sensation, she comes face to face with Warren Cave (Aaron Paul), the man she may have mistakenly helped to put behind bars. Her investigation navigates urgent concerns about privacy, media and race.

Truth Be Told will premiere on Apple TV+ on December 6, 2019.
