The original script for Zombieland 2 included a Ghostbusters reunion

ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP finally hit theaters last Friday, but the sequel had been in the works for a decade. Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick began toying around with ideas for a ZOMBIELAND sequel almost immediately following the release of the first film, but for a variety of reasons, the team wouldn't end up getting back together for many years.

A lot can change over the course of a decade, and the script for ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP was no exception. In an interview with THR, Reese and Wernick revealed that one idea which wound up being dropped was a sequence which would have served as a GHOSTBUSTERS reunion between Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson. As we know, Bill Murray made a very memorable appearance in the first ZOMBIELAND, and Reese and Wernick were seeking to recapture a little of that same magic for the sequel.

Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson got Bill Murray out on a golf course and were trying to convince him to do a sequel to Ghostbusters. Dan Aykroyd becomes a zombie and attacks Bill and there are golf carts going in the lake and golf clubs being swung at people.

In a separate interview with Uproxx, Reese added that Joe Pesci also factored into the scene as he would have been playing golf, very slowly, ahead of the foursome. "So, Bill Murray hits the drive into Joe Pesci, basically past him," Reese said. "Joe Pesci is really mad, turns around, and is upset. So, they all hate Pesci." However, as time went on, it was clear that the sequence no longer worked. Not only did Harold Ramis sadly pass away in 2014, but several GHOSTBUSTERS projects, including the 2016 reboot and the upcoming film from Jason Reitman, have materialized.
