Break out your best funeral finery, stop washing your hair, and prepare to cake on some makeup, because Kevin Smith has announced that former My Chemical Romance frontman and comic book mogul Gerard Way will be composing the score for CLERKS 3!
According to a /Film reader by the name of Mario R, Smith unveiled Way's involvement in the recently-resuscitated sequel on Monday during a Roadshow event for JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT. As per /Film's report, Smith had managed to convince Way to return to the music scene, marking CLERKS 3 as the shock rocker's first film score project. Previously, Smith and Way had collaborated on a track for TUSK, but more recently, Way released a cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Hazy Shade of Winter” for Netflix’s adaptation of THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY.
With regard to CLERKS 3, Smith made the news official by taking to Instagram for a photo of himself with his hetero-lifemate, Mewes, and CLERKS star Jeff Anderson. A caption was included with the photo that read “It’ll be a movie about how a decades-spanning friendship finally confronts the future.”

CLERKS 3 is a project that Smith has been hoping to bring to fruition for quite some time. In fact, Smith says that he'd found inspiration for a new draft of the CLERKS 3 script thanks in part to his February, 2018 heart attack. When talking about the film earlier this month, Smith detailed aspects of the plot for Randall and Dante's next foray into the workforce.
“Randal has a heart attack, decides that he came so close to death, and his life has meant nothing, there’s nobody to memorialize him, he has no family or anything like that. And in the recovery, while under fentanyl, he comes to the conclusion at mid-life, having almost died, having worked in a movie store his whole life and watched other people’s movies, he tells Dante, I think we need to make a movie. So Dante and Randal make ‘Clerks.’ That’s the story of ‘Clerks 3.”

The streaming version of It’s a Wonderful Life that’s been showing on Pluto, Tubi and Roku is an abomination with a new title and a terrible new musical score.
