Ben Affleck to get mesmerized for Robert Rodriguez’s thriller Hypnotic

After reprising his role as comic book creator Holden McNeil for Kevin Smith's JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT, it's been announced that Ben Affleck is gearing up to star in Robert Rodriguez's action thriller HYPNOTIC. Much like several of Rodriguez's other endeavors, this new project promises to captivate audiences by allowing an intricately-woven plot to unravel, entangling its characters in a web of intrigue and pulse-pounding action.

In the film, Affleck will play a detective who, while investigating a string of impossible high-end heists, becomes ensnared in a mystery involving his missing daughter and a secret government program.

HYPNOTIC will see Rodriguez working within a substantial budget of $60-$80 million for the pic, which hails from Studio 8 and Solstice Studios. With a production start set for April of next year, HYPNOTIC stands as the first project to fly as a joint effort between both studios.

 “Working with Ben on his award-winning projects, including Argo and The Town, I have seen how his versatility and creativity has made him one of the most talented filmmakers both in front of and behind the camera,” said Jeff Robinov, CEO of Studio 8. “It’s very meaningful to be collaborating with Ben again on this uniquely riveting suspense thriller, and I know he and Robert will make a terrific film together.”

The last time anyone saw Affleck display his action chops was in March of this year for J.C. Chandor's TRIPLE FRONTIER. In the film, Affleck played former special forces operative Tom 'Redfly' Davis, one of five friends looking to put a bullet in the head of a ruthless South American druglord.

Writing the script for HYPNOTIC are Rodriguez and GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS scribe Max Borenstein. With production not set to kick off until April of 2020, it could be awhile before we see a trailer or receive word of an official release date.
