Plot details for three episodes worth of The Mandalorian have arrived

We're so close to the debut of STAR WARS: THE MANDALORIAN on Disney+ that I can almost taste it. Full disclosure, it tastes a bit like blood, sand, and fermented Bantha milk. Up until now, Jon Favreau's upcoming Star Wars series has been cloaked in shadow. However, new details concerning the first three epsidoes of the series have recently been revealed by Disney. While they're not the most verbose of descriptions, each of the new synopses does paint a vague picture of the events yet to come. Additionally, if I know Star Wars fans, they'll take anything they can get, regardless of how so many of the franchise's reveals only offer up more questions than answers.

"Chapter 3": The battered Mandalorian returns to his client for reward.

Pfft. Yeah. I'd warned you that the synopses were vague.

For the first-ever live-action Star Wars series, Pedro Pascal stars as a bounty hunter roaming the Outer Rim territories after the fall of the Empire. Initially, THE MANDALORIAN was described by Disney as follows: After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. “The Mandalorian” is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, THE MANDALORIAN director Dave Filoni said that although the Rebels have sent the Empire packing, the universe doesn't suddenly become celebratory Ewok dances and Cantina hoedowns . "You get that the Rebels won and they’re trying to establish a Republic, but there’s no way that could have set in for everybody all at once," Filoni said. "You have in a Western where you’re out on the frontier and there might be Washington and they might have some marshals, but sometimes good luck finding one." Series creator Jon Favreau added, "Also, what could happen in the 30 years between celebrating the defeat of the Empire and then the First Order? You come in on Episode VII, [the First Order are] not just starting out. They’re pretty far along… So somehow, things weren’t necessarily managed as well as they could have been if [the galaxy] ended up in hot water again like that." EW then added that THE MANDALORIAN "plans to use elements from across the Skywalker saga films, The Clone Wars and other animated series and the Extended Universe in its storytelling."

THE MANDALORIAN follows a lone bounty hunter (Pedro Pascal) in the outer reaches of the galaxy who accepts a bounty from a mysterious client (played by Werner Herzog) who wears an Empire insignia around his neck, then goes on to encounter a former Rebel Shock Trooper Cara Dune (Gina Carano), a jowly Ugnaught alien named Kuiil (voiced by Nick Nolte), and a killer droid IG-11 (voiced by Taika Waititi), among other underworld denizens.
