Ever since the Sundance Film Festival began three and a half decades ago, it's been a bastion of quality cinema. Many filmmakers received their big break at Sundance including directors David O. Russell and Paul Thomas Anderson. Moreover, some of the great films of the last thirty years premiered at Sundance including RESERVOIR DOGS, CLERKS, GET OUT, and LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE. With the annual festival fast approaching, Sundance finally released their upcoming lineup for 2020.
Among the notable films to premiere next month will be Viggo Mortensen's directorial debut FALLING, and director Dee Rees' followup to MUDBOUND, THE LAST THING HE WANTED starring Anne Hathaway, Ben Affleck, Willem Dafoe, and Rosie Perez. Additionally, the fest will tout new projects from Ron Howard, Carrie Coon, Alison Brie, and Ethan Hawke. Hawke will be starring in a biopic all about Nikola Tesla, appropriate titled TESLA.
In total 118 movies will premiere at the 36th annual Sundance Film Festival, which runs between January 23 and February 2, 2020 in Park City, Utah. According to Sundance Institute Executive Director Keri Putnam, this year's festival will focus on "imagined futures" although its not exactly clear what that entails. Rumor also has it that the highly anticipated Taylor Swift Netflix documentary TAYLOR SWIFT: MISS AMERICANA may debut at the festival. So T-swizzle fans if you're willing to brave the snow and cold you may just be in for a treat.
