Weed. Bush. Skunkamolah. White Widow Super Cheese. These are the words that Matthew McConaughey's Mickey Pearson uses to describe marijuana in a new clip for THE GENTLEMEN titled "The New Gold Rush." Personally, I tend to refer to the good plant as Trees, Cheebah, or The Sweet Leaf. Whichever name you prefer, why not roll yourself one of the Devil's cigarettes and indulge while you enjoy this clip from Guy Ritchie's upcoming film, THE GENTLEMEN.
In the clip, we find a dapper Matthew McConaughey and Jeremy Strong discussing the new gold rush, and all the glories that come with becoming a legitimate purveyor of one of the world's most celebrated cash crops.
THE GENTLEMEN follows American expat Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey) who built a highly profitable marijuana empire in London. When word gets out that he’s looking to cash out of the business forever it triggers plots, schemes, bribery and blackmail in an attempt to steal his domain out from under him (featuring an all-star ensemble cast including Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong, Eddie Marsan, Colin Farrell, and Hugh Grant).
Ritchie will direct from his own screenplay, which is based on a story he wrote with Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies. Ritchie will also produce with Atkinson, with Bill Block also producing.
Well alright, alright, alright. It sure feels good to know that after directing films like KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD and Disney's live-action version of ALADDIN, that Ritchie is returning to the ensemble formula that made him shine early on with crime comedies the likes of SNATCH and LOCK, STOCK, AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS. With any luck this movie will feel like coming home for fans of Ritchie's more diabolical works, and perhaps we'll even have a new classic to soon add to the Stoner Film pantheon.
THE GENTLEMEN will puff, puff, pass into theaters on January 24, 2020.
