Netflix unveils the platform’s Most-Viewed Movies and TV of 2019

Netflix has recently unveiled a series of top 10 lists that showcase the streaming platform's most-viewed films and television series of 2019 in the United States. Unsurprisingly, the most popular feature across the board was MURDER MYSTERY, an action-crime comedy starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. Known for releasing a series of duds over the past decade, Sandler's Netflix offerings typically perform like gangbusters for the streamer, and MURDER MYSTERY is no exception to this peculiar tradition. With a number of streaming networks launched this year (or in the works for 2020), Netflix is no doubt thrilled to have landed Sandler as their Golden Goose, especially as the battle for streamer supremacy continues to rage. With regard to television series, the third season of STRANGER THINGS scared up big numbers for Netflix, while TIDYING UP WITH MARIE KONDO stands as the streamers most-viewed nonfiction selection of 2019.

Each list that Netflix has provided for its most popular titles is based on what performed best within 28 days of its inaugural launch on the service. The list also accounts for those who tuned in for more than two minutes of each film or television series. While two minutes is rarely enough time to get a feel for any film-related product, it's nice to know that Netflix's system does account for those who'd abandoned a selection well-before it had a chance to breathe.

When looking at the overall top 10 most popular titles, we find that only one film or series was not a Netflix original: THE INCREDIBLES 2. This is obviously a major win for the platform, as it proves that subscribers are invested in watching their original content, and will perhaps remain users of the service despite also subscribing to streamers the likes of Disney+, Amazon Prime, and Hulu, among others.
