The coronavirus pandemic has caused studios to halt production on hundreds of movies and TV shows, as well as push back the release dates of just about every film which was slated to hit theaters in the next few months. With theaters now closed across the nation, those newly orphaned films will be given new release dates later in the year (hopefully), but in the cases of some, they'll find a new home at a streaming service.
It seems that will be the case with THE LOVEBIRDS, a romantic comedy starring Kumail Nanjiani (THE ETERNALS) and Issa Rae (Insecure), as Deadline has reported that Paramount Pictures has elected to send the film to Netflix. The film was slated to debut in theaters on April 3, 2020, but we don't know when it will launch on Netflix just yet. THE LOVEBIRDS, which comes from director Michael Showalter (THE BIG SICK), follows a couple who experience a defining moment in their relationship when they are falsely accused of murder when someone claiming to be a police officer commandeers their vehicle in order to run down a fleeing man.
The official synopsis for THE LOVEBIRDS:
A couple (Issa Rae & Kumail Nanjiani) experiences a defining moment in their relationship when they are unintentionally embroiled in a murder mystery. As their journey to clear their names takes them from one extreme – and hilarious – circumstance to the next, they must figure out how they, and their relationship, can survive the night.
THE LOVE BIRDS will hit Netflix…sometime soon I hope.
