Welcome to Flavortown, Bill Murray. It was announced today that Bill Murray will be going chip-to-chip with Food Network star Guy Fieri in The Nacho Average Showdown, a live-event which will determine who can make the best nachos. As fun as that sounds, the event will also serve to raise money for the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund, which gives financial assistance to employees impacted by the COVID-19 shut-down.

The Nacho Average Showdown event will stream on Food Network's Facebook page on May 15th at 5pm ET, with Food Network's Carla Hall hosting and Shaquille O'Neal and Terry Crews serving as judges. Not only that, but Murray and Fieri's sons, Homer Murray and Hunter Fieri, will also be doing battle. This sounds like just the sort of insanity which could only happen during a global pandemic, but hey, it's all going to a good cause. The Restaurant Employee Relief Fund provides restaurant workers with $500 grants, and 100 percent of all donations will be doing directly to RERF. To date, more than $22 million has been raised, all of which will be going out to restaurant employees. In a statement, Guy Fieri said:

My entire career has been in the restaurant business. From bussing tables to flambé captain to dishwasher to chef… I have done it all. I've also spent the better part of the last 15 years traveling this great country meeting other folks who've dedicated their lives to this business, and let me tell you something, they are the hardest working, most real deal workers you've ever met… the heartbeats of their communities. But they need our help and with the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund, we can serve up some support when these restaurant employees need it most… right now.

Viewers will be able to donate to the RERF directly through the Facebook page, but you can also support your local restaurants which are still operating by ordering from them directly (or purchasing a gift-card for later use). I don't know about you, but I'm desperately craving nachos right now. Give me your best nacho recipes in the comments below!
