Hulu developing TV series based on legendary Action Park amusement park

According to Variety, Hulu is developing a comedy series revolving around Action Park, the New Jersey amusement park which was notorious for poorly designed, unsafe rides, as well as it's under-aged, under-trained, and under-the-influence staff. Known as Accident Park, Class Action Park, and Traction Park, the park opened in the late 1970s before it was finally closed in 1996.

The half-hour series will be based on the book "Action Park: Fast Times, Wild Rides, and the Untold Story of America's Most Dangerous Amusement Park" by Andy Mulvihill and Jake Rossen which was snagged by 20th Century Fox Television and Hulu is a "competitive situation." Here's what Variety has to say about the series: "The show is described the almost impossible-to-believe story of the legendary, dangerous amusement park where millions were entertained and almost as many bruises were sustained. It will be told through the eyes Andy Mulvihill, the son of the park’s idiosyncratic founder, Gene Mulvihill."

If you remember, this isn't the first time that Action Park has been brought back to life, as Johnny Knoxville played a fictionalized version of Gene Mulvihill in ACTION POINT, a comedy film which included the traditional Jackass-style stunts connected by a fictional narrative. Although the film didn't exactly thrill critically and commercially, it did feature some impressive (and painful looking) stunts; in fact, Knoxville later said that he was injured on ACTION POINT more than any other film. "Four concussions, broke my hand, busted my meniscus, whiplash, stitches over my right eye which required stitches, lost a couple teeth," Knoxville said while relating his injuries to Vanity Fair. Additionally, Knoxville's left eye also popped out of its socket when he blew his nose after a concussion. Yikes.
