Zoë Kravitz says Robert Pattinson is the perfect fit for playing The Batman

While fans won't find out if Zoë Kravitz (HIGH FIDELITY, MAD MAX: FURY ROAD) is purrfect for the role of Selina Kyle / Catwoman until later next year (presumably), one thing is for certain, she's convinced that her co-star, Robert Pattinson, is the perfect choice to play Batman.

On Thursday's episode of the Variety and iHeart podcast The Big Ticket, while speaking about her role as Robyn 'Rob' Gordon for Hulu's gender swapped series version of High Fidelity, the actress also dished about her upcoming role for Matt Reeves' THE BATMAN, and what it's been like to slip into the part of Gotham's feline femme fatale, Catwoman.

When asked what it was like to see herself as Catwoman for the first time, Kravitz said, "It’s cool, man. It’s cool. I can’t say it wasn’t cool, but I’ve been really trying to not think too much about just what that character means to everybody else. Just because it can be distracting in the wrong way, especially when you’re trying to become someone else. When the announcement came out that I had gotten this role, my phone rang more than it has ever. More than my birthday, more than my wedding, more than anything. So I felt that immediate pressure. The script is phenomenal. The story’s really strong. I feel very clear on who Selena is and what she wants, and I’m trying to stay more focused on that."

Kravitz is just one of many women who've been chosen to represent Selina on the big screen, after actresses the likes of Lee Meriwether, Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry and Anne Hathaway. With the role being perhaps the biggest of her burgeoning career to date, pressure to land the character on all fours is a part of the whole kit 'n kaboodle. When asked if she'd spoken to Pfeiffer or Berry about the role, Kravitz had the following to say:

"I spoke to Michelle. We sat at the same table at the Golden Globes, and I’ve met her a bunch over the years because of David E. Kelley. She’d always been so nice. I had just gotten cast so I was really nervous to be around her, and she was so sweet. She just gave me a big hug and said, “You’re going to be great.” That was really just amazing. Both Halle and Anne [Hathaway] were really sweet on Instagram and Twitter. [They] sent really sweet, encouraging messages when that was announced. So I feel supported by my girls."

Last but certainly not least, Kravitz tapped into her thoughts about Pattinson suiting up as Batman, and how she thinks that the actor has a very unique approach to playing the iconic character.

"Good question. First of all, he’s just a really good actor. He started out as this kind of teen pop sensation, and then I think we all kind of saw through his work that there was a lot more going on. He’s a really interesting artist, and that is very much Batman in a way. We have the illusion of Bruce Wayne, and then we have Batman in the shadows that has a lot more complicated things going on. So just in that, I think he’s perfect for this role. He can relate in that way, and he looks good in the suit, man. He looks good in the suit. That’s a good jaw line. But he’s just a great actor and he brings so much to everything he does. I think that it’s a really hard role because people are expecting a lot. Also it’s restricting in a lot of ways. You’re wearing the suit, and you can’t see their eyes, and you can only move in a certain way. So you have to get really creative in terms of how can you portray a multidimensional character? He’s way up for the challenge and has really interesting ideas already. I think he’s perfect, perfect casting."

According to Kravitz, Pattinson has got the role on lock, and "Holy chiseled physique, Batman" does she think that he looks damn good in the suit. It's all about that jaw line, baby. Bring on the Bat-dance and lets patrol the rooftops!

Though production for THE BATMAN had stalled for a time due to COVID-19 restrcitions, the upcoming comic book adventure was recently given the go-ahead to resume filming after the UK government and health bodies signed off on new coronavirus safety rules. Hopefully this means that the film is still on track to meet its late 2021 release date in theaters.

In addition to Kravitz and Pattinson, THE BATMAN also stars Paul Dano as Edward Nashton / The Riddler; Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot / The Penguin; Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth; Peter Sarsgaard as District Attorney Gil Colson; Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon; and John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, among others. Plot details are being kept under cape and cowl at this time, though with any luck, more will be revealed at DC's upcoming Fandome event, which is said to start at 10am Pacific on Aug. 22 and will be accessible for 24 hours.
