Former Mythbusters' host, Grant Imahara, who also hosted the White Rabbit Project and worked earlier as a modelmaker for Industrial Light + Magic, passed away at the age of 49 on Monday. A Discovery spokesperson confirmed the news but no other details have been revealed at this time.
As the former host of Mythbusters, Imahara co-hosted more than 200 episodes of the popular series, starting with season 3 in 2005. Imahara remained with the show until 2014 and also made a handful of appearances since departing the show. Former longtime Mythbusters host Adam Savage took to Twitter to talk about Imahara's sudden loss:
I’m at a loss. No words. I’ve been part of two big families with Grant Imahara over the last 22 years. Grant was a truly brilliant engineer, artist and performer, but also just such a generous, easygoing, and gentle PERSON. Working with Grant was so much fun. I’ll miss my friend.

Imahara was born on October 23, 1970, in Los Angeles. Grant had a background in robotics and physics when he joined Lucasfilm’s THX and later moved to its VFX unit ILM. During his nearly decade-long tenure, he worked on films and such blockbuster movies like JURASSIC PARK, THE MATRIX, THE TERMINATOR, xXx, and reissues of the original STAR WARS trilogy. His ILM credits include GALAXY QUEST, VAN HELSING, and A.I. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE. In 2014, Imahara and fellow MythBusters builders Kari Byron and Tory Belleci left the series to host Netflix’s White Rabbit Project. The series, in which the trio did experiments and builds on topics ranging from famous heists to World War II weaponry, ran for one season in late 2016.
This seems like a very sudden passing and it appears the family or people around him want to keep the cause of death secret until the time is right. I remember Imahara on Mythbusters and he was an engaging host that clearly knew a thing or two about the subject matter on the show. Our condolences go out to family and friends of Grant Imahara as they grieve his loss.
