The Boys Comic Con @Home panel: Crazy first clip and Season 3 announcement!

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

This year's San Diego Comic Con is taking on a COVID-19 friendly format with live-streamed panels covering all of your favorite shows and movies. JoBlo.com is there with insights and news as it breaks. We will bring you the best and coolest panels beamed into the official Comic Con @Home YouTube page. You can watch for yourself above or read the news below from the panel.

Amazon Prime's The Boys was a breakout hit last year and fans have been anxiously waiting for the new run debuting this September. Well, the Comic Con@Home panel did not disappoint! Bringing the cast of the first season together alongside the newest member of The Seven, Aya Cash, moderator Aisha Tyler kicked things off asking showrunner Eric Kripke what the new season had in store. Kripke plans for the sophomore run to tackle things like systematic racism while also delivering on upped stakes as compared to the first season.

That being said, the first scene from the new season was streamed and it focused on Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), Mother's Milk (Laz Alonso), and Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid) attempting to outrun The Deep (Chace Crawford) who blocks them with a whale. Needless to say, Butcher lives up to his name, crashing his motorboat THROUGH the whale. it is a gnarly scene and shows that The Boys is going to keep delivering on the crazy in the new season.

Everyone seemed to have a blast with the stunt which was shot on the water using practical effects. In fact, Karl Urban actually drove the boat which Jack Quaid was launched out of. Always nice to see a production using stunts rather than green screen!

The cast went on to share their personal experiences with the season and how their characters have developed after the events of the finale including the conflict between Hughie and Butcher, Hughie and Starlight, Starlight and A-Train as well as Homelander and…..breast milk?

Next, Aisha Tyler asked about Antony Starr's development as Homelander and referenced the image above from an early scene in season two. Starr said it fed into his character's Oedipus complex and involved the most internal thing of all, milk. It turns out that without Madeline Stillwell (Elizabeth Shue) to protect him, Homelander goes deep inside himself psychologically which leads to the bizarre beverage above.

The panel also included a fun moment with Chace Crawford chatting with a dolphin ("what's that, baby girl?") which had the cast cracking up. Clearly these actors all have a solid camaraderie and get along really well which added to the pretty much-expected news announced at the end of the panel from producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg who revealed that Amazon Prime has renewed The Boys for a third season!

While it remains pretty much unknown when the third season can be filmed, the solid fan-base for the series guarantees it will be back for another run after this year. For now, we can get excited to see the second season when it debuts on September 4th.
