Another day, another movie opting to debut on a streaming service. THR has reported that RUN, a horror thriller from writer/director Aneesh Chaganty (SEARCHING), will be skipping theaters and will instead debut on Hulu. The film stars Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story) as Diane, an unhinged mother who has raised her daughter Chloe (Kiera Allen) in almost total isolation since her birth, but Chloe is now beginning to uncover her mother's sinister secrets
RUN was slated to have been released by Lionsgate on May 8th, but as with everything else, COVID-19 brought those plans to a halt. THR says that there were a variety of bidders for the film, but that Hulu came out the winner. "We’re super excited audiences will get to stream Run on Hulu, a platform that’s really committed to giving the movie the same, big splash that was always intended for it," Chaganty said. "Plus, the film is about a girl who’s been quarantined at home her whole life; watching it the same way should be a fitting experience in 2020." This isn't the first Lionsgate film to skip theaters recently, as Lionsgate also announced last week that ANTEBELLUM would debut on PVOD instead next month. However, both ANTEBELLUM and RUN will still be released theatrically in select international markets.
The official synopsis for RUN:
They say you can never escape a mother’s love… but for Chloe, that’s not a comfort — it’s a threat. There’s something unnatural, even sinister about the relationship between Chloe (newcomer Kiera Allen) and her mom, Diane (Sarah Paulson). Diane has raised her daughter in total isolation, controlling every move she’s made since birth, and there are secrets that Chloe’s only beginning to grasp. From the visionary writers, producers and director of the breakout film Searching, comes a suspense thriller that shows that when mom gets a little too close, you need to RUN.
It's expected that RUN will debut on Hulu later this year.
