Over the course of the past few years, I've written dozens of articles about Denis Villeneuve's upcoming adaptation of Frank Herbert's "Dune," so it's safe to say that I'm definitely more than a little excited about the upcoming sci-fi epic. We recently got a new look at the characters of DUNE thanks to several new covers for Empire Magazine, as well as learned that the first trailer for the film will be released online on September 9th, but now Empire is back with a handful of new images from the film.

You can check out the images below, which include Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, and Jason Momoa kicking ass as Duncan Idaho.

While speaking with Empire, Timothée Chalamet commented on shooting the film in the Wadi Rum desert rather than in front of a green-screen. "That part of the Wadi Rum is so awe-inspiring, you might as well be getting chased by that cliff in the background," said Chalamet. "It wasn’t a green-screen or anything. That’s one of the most thrilling parts of the book and the movie. We had the sketches. That was a lesson for me. On a Call Me By Your Name or Beautiful Boy it can be counterintuitive to see the storyboards because then maybe you limit yourself based on a camera angle or whatever. It’s the opposite [here] because, for a sequence with the sandworm chasing you, I could never imagine that." In addition to Chalamet, Isaac, Brolin, Zendaya, and Momoa, the spawling all-star cast of DUNE includes Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Stellan Skarsgard as the villainous Baron Harkonnen, Dave Bautista as his sadistic nephew, Glossu "Beast" Rabban, Charlotte Rampling as the Reverend Mother Mohiam, the emperor's truthsayer, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, the leader of the Fremen, and David Dastmalchian (ANT-MAN AND THE WASP) as Piter De Vries, a twisted Mentat. DUNE will be hitting theaters on December 18, 2020.
