It's been rumoured for quite some time, but Warner Bros. officially announced today that they will be releasing THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY and THE HOBBIT TRILOGY on 4K Ultra HD on December 1, 2020. All six films, which consist of THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY, THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG, THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES, THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING, THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS, and THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING, have been fully remastered under the supervision of director Peter Jackson and will be available in both the theatrical and extended versions.
In addition to THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY and THE HOBBIT TRILOGY, there will also be a box-set for THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY that will include a replica of the One Ring. Check out the box-sets below!
Additionally, Warner Bros. also announced that they will be releasing a 4K Ultra HD Middle-Earth Ultimate Collector's Edition that will include the theatrical and extended versions of all six films, along with new bonus content, Blu-ray discs of THE HOBBIT TRILOGY, and remastered Blu-ray disc of THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy. That set will be released in the summer of 2021, so if you're a hard-core fan, that's probably the release that you want to hold out for, and it's certainly nice of Warner Bros. to give fans the head's up. There will also be a new Blu-ray set of THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY which will feature remastered versions of each film that will be released the fourth quarter of 2021 in order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING. It's been 20 years since the first one?? Damn, now I feel old.
Will you be grabbing THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY and THE HOBBIT TRILOGY on 4K on December 1st? Or will you hold out for the Ultimate Collector's Edition?
