I'm not necessarily sure we need this but it's going to happen anyway. Disney+ is moving ahead with a live-action Chip 'n' Dale: Rescue Rangers movie and it's set to begin filming in the spring of 2021.
To add a bit of nostalgia, it's believed that the original voice cast including Tress MacNeille (Chip and Gadget), Corey Burton (Dale and Zipper), and Jim Cummings (Monterey Jack) are returning for the movie. The film will be directed by Akiva Schaffer and he describes the film as "meta, something self-referential, and cool." The movie also won't be an origin story, nor a detective agency story. Dan Gregor, Doug Mand, and Barry Schwartz wrote the latest draft of the script while David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are on board as producers.
Chip 'n' Dale: Rescue Rangers premiered on March 4, 1989, and ran until November 19, 1990. The show produced 65 episodes and became even more popular when it entered national syndication where it aired along with other popular cartoons from the era like DuckTales and TaleSpin. On the show, Chip and Dale were featured as the owners of a detective agency that solve crimes together. They appeared alongside pilot/mechanic Gadget, Monty, and Zipper.
There is no release date set for the live-action movie at this time but given the production start date, one could imagine that the movie will arrive sometime in late 2021, or early 2022, as long as everything goes according to plan. It has been a while since the gang has been together and given the fact that this live-action film was first mentioned five years ago, fans should be pleased that development is actively moving forward.
