Flashdance TV reboot

For whatever reason, both FLASHDANCE and FOOTLOOSE are combined in my head; it could be because both movies were released within a year of one another, or it could be because I haven't actually seen either one. Who knows. According to THR, a FLASHDANCE TV reboot is currently in development for Paramount+, the streaming service currently known as CBS All Access that will be rebranded next year.

Tracy McMillan (Good Girls Revolt) is slated to pen the script for the Flashdance TV reboot, which will be executive produced by Angela Robinson (The L Word), who is also set to direct the pilot. The original 1983 film starred Jennifer Beals as a young steel mill worker in Pittsburgh who also also works as an exotic dancer by night but dreams of becoming a professional ballerina. Although the film received largely negative reviews upon its release, it would go on to become the third highest grossing film of the year behind RETURN OF THE JEDI and TERMS OF ENDEARMENT. This new incarnation of FLASHDANCE will center around "a young Black woman with ballet dreams and a strip club reality who struggles to find her place in the world while navigating romance, money, art, friendship and how to love herself." The original FLASHDANCE would go on to spawn a musical, and that iconic scene in which Jennifer Beals dances to "Maniac" and douses herself in water has been referenced and parodied more times than I can count. You know the one.
