Avatar: Kate Winslet takes a dive in new set photo from upcoming sequel

Although James Cameron's AVATAR 2 is now 100% complete, with the second sequel also well on the way, we're still more than two years out from returning to the world of Pandora as the release of the films have been pushed back by a full year. Whatever are we to do with our remaining AVATAR-less years? I suppose we could look at a behind-the-scenes photo of Kate Winslet at the bottom of an underwater motion-capture tank. Don't tell me you've got other plans, I know the truth.

We know that the first AVATAR sequel will be exploring the underwater world of Pandora as we're set to be introduced to the Metkayina, a new Na'vi clan who reside on the great oceanic reefs. Cliff Curtis (Fear the Walking Dead) will play Tonowari, leader of the Metkayina, with Kate Winslet playing Ronal, a Na'vi free-diver who has been described as a "pivotal character in the ongoing story." While shooting the role, Kate Winslet spent a lot of time underwater, telling THR that she "had to learn how to free-dive to play that role in Avatar, and that was just incredible. My longest breath hold was seven minutes and 14 seconds, like crazy, crazy stuff." The AVATAR sequels also serve as Kate Winslet's first time working with James Cameron since TITANIC over twenty years ago.

It was so wonderful to work with Jim again. Time has changed him. Jim has become a father a few more times over. He is a calmer person. Chilled. You can just feel him enjoying it more this time.

AVATAR 2 will be hitting theaters on December 16, 2022, followed by AVATAR 3 on December 20, 2024, AVATAR 4 on December 18, 2026, and AVATAR 5 on December 22, 2028.
