It was revealed earlier this year that The Mandalorian cast Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kyrze, a Mandalorian warrior who she voiced in multiple episodes of both Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, in The Mandalorian. Last week’s episode saw Sackhoff make her live-action debut as the character, and it would seem that Bo-Katan is going to be quite important moving forward.
Katee Sackhoff spoke with Entertainment Tonight upon the debut of the episode to talk all things STAR WARS and to express her excitement at getting the play the character in live-action. An actor getting the chance to take their character from animation to live-action is relatively rare, and Sackhoff said that she never imagined that she’d get the opportunity to do so because “fan castings never happen.” Sackhoff first got an inkling that it might be possible when she spoke with Dave Filoni about The Mandalorian and was later officially offered the role by Jon Favreau. While we still don’t know whether or not Katee Sackhoff will return as Bo-Katan this season, Sackhoff teased that the character is “so important to the story of The Mandalorian and where it’s going.” Given that Bo-Katan is searching for the Darksaber, which is in the possession of Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), it will only be a matter of time before the two face off and drag Din Djarin (Pedra Pascal) into the restoration of Mandalore. Given that it’s been a number of years since we last saw Bo-Katan in the STAR WARS saga, Sackhoff says that it’s only natural that the character has experienced a few changes.
I think that there is a little piece of Bo-Katan that I don’t think you see coming. She’s got something else going on in her mind and everything she does is purposeful. And I think that is new for her. She’s grown into the role of a leader, and she finally believes she is that leader, but there is an ego that comes with that for her that may or may not work against her.
