I think it's safe to assume that everyone can use a bit of magic this holiday season. Thankfully, Disney is about to cast one heck of a spell on Disney+ subscribers with GODMOTHERED. The House of Mouse debuted a trailer for the upcoming comedy on Thursday, featuring Jillian Bell as a well-meaning Godmother and Isla Fisher as a work-a-day woman who's forgotten how to believe in magic.
Here's the official synopsis, per Disney:
Set at Christmas time, “Godmothered” is a comedy about Eleanor, a young, inexperienced fairy godmother-in-training (Jillian Bell) who upon hearing that her chosen profession is facing extinction, decides to show the world that people still need fairy godmothers. Finding a mislaid letter from a 10-year-old girl in distress, Eleanor tracks her down and discovers that the girl, Mackenzie, is now a 40-year-old single mom (Isla Fisher) working at a news station in Boston. Having lost her husband several years earlier, Mackenzie has all but given up on the idea of “Happily Ever After,” but Eleanor is bound and determined to give Mackenzie a happiness makeover, whether she likes it or not.
Directed by Sharon Maguire (Bridget Jone's Diary, Bridget Jone's Baby), and produced by Justin Springer (Dumbo), Diane L. Sabatini (Lady and the Tramp), Tom Pollock (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters), with Amie Karp (Ghostbusters: Afterlife) serving as executive producer, GODMOTHERED looks to be putting a new spin on a classic fairy tale figure while giving the world a reason to keep believing in magic and miracles.
GODMOTHERED also stars Santiago Cabrera, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Jane Curtin, June Squibb, Jillian Shea Spaeder, Willa Skye, Artemis Pebdani, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Stephnie Weir.
While I might not be the target audience for GODMOTHERED, I must say that Disney's latest live-action spectacle looks like something my niece would simply die for. Were we not in the midst of a pandemic, I'd perhaps fly down to Florida to watch it with her. Be that as it may, there's always the option of us watching it separately and then arranging a video call to compare notes. Ah, technology, will you ever cease to amaze?
Disney is set to present their latest magical comedy on December 4, only on Disney+.
