Director Jason Moore's Shotgun Wedding is heading to Amazon Prime Video for a series of major international territories as well as to some key indie buyers. The big-budget action-comedy stars Jennifer Lopez and Armie Hammer who play a couple that gather their lovable but very opinionated families for the ultimate destination wedding just as they begin to get cold feet about their relationship. If that wasn’t enough of a threat to the celebration, suddenly everyone’s lives are in danger when the entire party is taken hostage.
Lionsgate's plan is to release the film domestically, but their sales division is in final negotiations to pre-sell the film to Amazon for UK/Ire, France, Italy, Spain, Australia/NZ, Canada, Benelux, and Latin American distribution. Foreign buyers are also in the mix, with companies the likes of Leonine in Germany and Nordisk in Scandinavia looking to RSVP to the film as well. The Amazon part of the deal is particularly notable in that this is the first time Lionsgate has sold one of its major titles to a streamer as part of a multi-territory deal.
Helmed by Moore, Shotgun Wedding is written by Beautiful Ruins scribe Mark Hammer and Liz Meriweather (New Girl). Production is set to begin early next year, with Mandeville’s Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman producing.
