Hawkeye: Hailee Steinfeld teases her badass take on Kate Bishop

The first Marvel Cinematic Universe Disney+ series will be unleashed just next month, but the studio has plenty of other MCU shows just over the horizon, one of which is Hawkeye. The upcoming series will find Jeremy Renner returning as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, where he'll be joined by Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, a young woman who is trained by Barton. Rumblings of Steinfeld's involvement in the series has been an open secret for months, but her casting was officially confirmed by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige at the Disney Investors Day event earlier this month.

Production on Hawkeye is well underway, and Hailee Steinfeld spoke with Entertainment Tonight to tease her badass take on the character.

I’m just so excited. As I’m in the process of developing her, I’m working with some incredible filmmakers that are helping me bring her to life. I can’t wait for people just to see how we are interpreting this character through the comics and in her own sort of ways. She’s such a badass, there’s no denying that. She’s so smart and witty and quick and her physical ability to do so many things is through the roof. It’s really tested me and it’s kept me going thorough quarantine, I will say, it’s given me a reason to stay with it. But I’m just very excited as I continue developing her to see sort of how we come up with it all.

Joining Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld in Hawkeye are Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) as Eleanor Bishop, Kate's mother; Fra Fee (Les Miserables) as Kazi, aka Kazimierz Kazimierczak, better known as Clown to Marvel fans; Tony Dalton (Better Call Saul) as Jack Duquesne, an early mentor to Hawkeye; newcomer Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, a deaf Native American known as Echo who can copy another person's movements; Zahn McClarnon (Westworld) as William Lopez, Maya's father; and Florence Pugh (Midsommar) will be reprising her Black Widow role of Yelena Belova. "What I get to do in the show ultimately is shepherd an amazing character, ultimately a better version of me and the sentiment of that is the fiber of what Hawkeye is, at least what I think Hawkeye is — a superhero without superpowers and I get to teach someone else to be a superhero without super powers," said Renner at San Diego Comic-Con last year. In addition to Hawkeye, Marvel is working on several other Marvel Cinematic Universe TV shows in various stages of production which are destined for Disney+, including The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Loki, What If…?, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk. WandaVision will be the first to arrive when it launches on Disney+ on January 15, 2021.
