Mortal Kombat fans were greeted with a real treat when "Entertainment Weekly" released the first images from the upcoming R-rated reboot. The images were met with mostly positive responses but the resemblance between Jax and a certain TV personality made had the film and the person in question trend heavily on social media.
Mechad Brooks is playing Major Jackson "Jax" Briggs in the film but many fans were quick to point out that in the image that was released, Jax looks an awful lot like Steve Harvey. One fan says "You couldn't tell me that Jax Briggs here doesn't look like Steve Harvey with a straight face…Also, I didn't know there was a Mortal Kombat movie coming this year." First let me address that once you see the Steve Harvey resemblance, it's hard to unsee it. I got a pretty good chuckle when I saw it for myself and some of the Twitter reactions were pretty funny. Secondly, for better or worse, people certainly now know a new Mortal Kombat movie is coming thanks to the Steve Harvey connection. You can check out some of the Twitter reactions below:

All this free publicity couldn't hurt, right? The first-look images were released last Friday and the film's official synopsis was unveiled just yesterday. For various reasons, Mortal Kombat has been trending a lot and even though fans were having fun with the Steve Harvey resemblance, it has done its job of raising awareness for the upcoming film.
The new Mortal Kombat is set to debut in theaters and on HBO MAX on April 16, 2021, and it features a cast of fighters ready to engage in bloody fatalities. The cast includes Mehcad Brooks as Jackson "Jax" Briggs, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Sisi Stringer as Mileena, Josh Lawson as Kano, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Max Huang as Kung Lao Max, and Lewis Tan as an all-new character.
