A character from the original 1968 PLANET OF THE APES is featured in the upcoming WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, the film that completes the trilogy that began with RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and continued with DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. That charater is Nova, but she’s not quite the Nova played by Linda Harrison in 1968. She has the name and the inability to speak, but she’s not a love interest sporting the latest in cave woman fashion. At this point in the APES timeline, she’s a young child who is taken in by the apes who are fighting a war against humans.
In WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, Caesar (Andy Serkis) finds a mysterious abandoned girl named NOVA (Amiah Miller). With no one else to protect her, Caesar reluctantly takes NOVA under his care. As the war between apes and humans intensifies, Caesar discovers that Nova is more important than he realized and the future of the planet is in his grasp.
A new promo for WAR has been released online and can be seen below. Running two and a half minutes, the video features clips from the film that are all about the bond that forms between Nova and the apes. As it plays out, you get to watch Caesar go from being grumpy-faced over her presence to being thankful she’s around.
Directed by Matt Reeves from a screenplay he wrote with Mark Bomback, WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES stars Serkis, Miller, Woody Harrelson, Gabriel Chavarria, Judy Greer, Steve Zahn, Karin Konoval, Sara Canning, and Aleks Paunovic.
The movie is set to reach theatre screens on July 14th.
