Earlier this week we brought you guys the news that some peeps were currently locked in rights battle over Stephen King's CHILDREN OF THE CORN.
Cody mentioned in that article that "they're going to have to move quickly. King recently filed to terminate the transfer of his licenses for several of his older movies," and that got me thinking, "what are these other movies King is trying to get the rights back to?"
With a little searching, I was able to find out (via Zerner Law) that King is currently getting the rights back to THE DEAD ZONE, CUJO, CREEPSHOW, CAT'S EYE, FIRESTARTER, and as Cody mentioned, CHILDREN OF THE CORN.
Now, I hate to be one to spread a rumor, but I'm speculating that he is after these right so that their plots and characters can be used in his upcoming Hulu series with J.J. Abrams, CASTLE ROCK.
After all, we already know that Scott Glenn has been hired to play Alan Pangborn, and that is a character present in THE DEAD ZONE, CUJO and THE DARK HALF. Again, I don't mean to start a rumor or anything, but this all makes sense to me.
If you're super interested in these legal matters, and which rights King gets back and which he doesn't, concerning these specific titles, then you can read the whole legal mumbo jumbo shite HERE.
One way or the other, Hulu, J.J. Abrams, and Stephen King's CASTLE ROCK is currently filming so we'll know one of these days. You can check out all the recent news on the upcoming series RIGHT HERE.
If you haven't seen CAT'S EYE, do so asap.
