Good Omens, the BBC / Amazon mini-series adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's novel Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, is now filming, and along with the start of production comes not only the first look at stars David Tennant and Michael Sheen in character (that's them up above), but also the confirmation of several of their co-stars.
The mini-series, written by Gaiman, will tell a story that
takes place in 2018 when the Apocalypse is near and Final Judgment is set to descend upon humanity. According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter Witch (the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner.
So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, and tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except Aziraphale, a somewhat fussy angel, and Crowley, a fast-living demon—both of whom have lived amongst Earth's mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle—are not actually looking forward to the coming war. And… someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.
Tennant is playing Crowley, with Sheen as Aziraphale, so if you've ever wondered what a fast-living demon and a fussy angel would look like, that picture has the answer.
The pair are being joined in the cast by Adria Arjona as Anathema Device, practical occultist and descendant of the ancient witch Agnes Nutter; Nina Sosanya as Sister Mary Loquacious of the Chattering Order of St Beryl; Ned Dennehy as Duke of Hell Hastur; Ariyon Bakare as Duke of Hell Ligur; Jack Whitehall as wages clerk-turned-witch hunter Pulsifer, a.k.a. Newt; Miranda Richardson as psychic medium and part-time courtesan Madame Tracy; and Michael McKean as Sgt. Shadwell, the leader of the witch-finder army.
That's quite a cast that has been assembled to bring to life some interesting sounding characters. I know absolutely nothing about the Good Omens novel, but I am intrigued by this mini-series.
Directed by Douglas Mackinnon, Good Omens will consist of six hour long episodes that will premiere on Amazon Prime Video before being broadcast on BBC.
