More than fifty years deep into his music career, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominee Todd Rundgren, whose best known songs include "Hello It's Me", "I Saw the Light", and "It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference", has decided to make his screen acting debut in director Patrick Fogarty's supernatural rock 'n roll horror-thriller THE 27 CLUB.
Written by Fogarty, Joe Flanders, and Michael Lynn, THE 27 CLUB asks,
"Why did Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, and Kurt Cobain all die at the age of 27?"
When an aspiring singer and a journalism student seek answers to the notorious curse of the so-called "27 Club," they find themselves trapped in an evil underworld that takes artists’ souls as payment for eternal fame.
Maddisyn Carter, John Hennigan, Eugene Henderson, Zach Paul Brown, and Gogo Lomo-David join Rundgren in the cast.
Rundgren had this to say about getting into acting:
A lot of friends and family have suggested that I would make good movie villain. I thought, ‘OK, as long as I’m a handsome villain like Dracula or something.’ Turns out my debut is not quite that. Still, you have to start somewhere and a slobbering ghoul, though not handsome, certainly should satisfy anyone interested in my villainous side."
Cleopatra Entertainment will be releasing THE 27 CLUB worldwide on all VOD platforms next week, on April 23rd. The film will also be receiving a limited edition Blu-ray/DVD/CD soundtrack release, "packaged in a gorgeous, six-panel Digi-Pak", on June 11th. The soundtrack will include original songs by Evante, Knox, Jürgen Engler of Die Krupps, and Todd Rundgren with Trent Reznor. Cleopatra's music division, Cleopatra Records, will also be releasing a standalone vinyl edition of the soundtrack.
The Blu-ray/DVD/CD soundtrack release can be pre-ordered at THIS LINK.
THE 27 CLUB was produced by David S. Sterling, Kelly Decker, Tim Yasui, and Ken Tighe, with Brian Perera serving as executive producer.
The trailer for THE 27 CLUB can be seen below. I can't say I was blown away by the trailer, but the presence of Rundgren in the cast is already enough to get me to watch the movie.
