Dan Berk and Robert Olsen's dark comedy thriller VILLAINS starring Bill Skarsgard (IT) and Maika Monroe (IT FOLLOWS) premiered at the SXSW Film Festival last month and today we have word that Gunpowder & Sky in association with MoviePass’ film division has acquired the flick for it's for U.S. release. G&S and MoviePass Films bought the rights from The Realm and plan to give the must-see movie a theatrical release this summer.
Directors Dan Berk and Robert Olsen commented:
Our brilliant cast and crew worked tirelessly to make this movie something special, and there’s no better affirmation of that goal than finding a home at Gunpowder & Sky. They have a track record of putting out bold and audacious movies, and we’re incredibly proud that ‘Villains’ will land among that company.
And that's not all, folks. Today we also have your first look at the film in motion via a clip, which you can check out below. It pits the four main stars against one another and is already a treat. Can't wait for the full meal this summer!
Here's the synopsis:
Mickey and Jules are lovers on the run, headed southbound for a fresh start in the Sunshine State. When their car dies after a gas station robbery, they break into a nearby house looking for a new set of wheels. What they find instead is a dark secret and a sweet-as-pie pair of homeowners who will do anything to keep it from getting out.
Skarsgard and Monroe's co-stars include Kyra Sedgwick (THE WOODSMAN, THE POSSESSION), and Jeffrey Donovan (BURN NOTICE, BLAIR WITCH 2: BOOK OF SHADOWS). The comedy-crime-thriller is directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen from a screenplay they wrote together. Trevor White, Tim White, Garrick Dion, and Allan Mandelbaum produced and Aaron Gilbert, Kevin Turen, Chadd Harbold, and Per Melita served as the movie's executive producers. Once again, G&S and MoviePass Films plan to give the movie a theatrical release this summer.
