Directed by Alexandre Aja and produced by Sam Raimi, the "nature run amok" horror film CRAWL is a 2019 release that I'm looking forward to with great anticipation. I've been on board with this one ever since it was first announced, due to the involvement of Aja and Raimi and the fact that it sounds like a twist on a 2010 movie I really enjoyed, BURNING BRIGHT. In that one a tiger got loose in a house during a hurricane, and in this one a similar scenario plays out with alligators.
Written by Michael Rasmussen and Shawn Rasmussen, CRAWL has the following synopsis:
When a massive hurricane hits her Florida hometown, Haley ignores evacuation orders to search for her missing father. Finding him gravely injured in the crawl space of their family home, the two become trapped by quickly encroaching floodwaters. As time runs out to escape the strengthening storm, Haley and her father discover that the rising water level is the least of their fears.
The film stars Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper. Aja produced it with Raimi and Craig Flores. Gregory Levasseur, Justin Bursch, and Lauren Selig serve as executive producers.
CRAWL is set to reach theatres on July 12th, and two months out from the release a trailer has arrived online. After watching the trailer, which is embedded below, I'm even more hyped. It looks like Aja and the screenwriters have managed to wring every bit of potential out of the concept, packing the film full of intense situations.
