Even before James Gunn signed on to direct Marvel and DC projects like GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and the follow-up to SUICIDE SQUAD, he was making his own original takes on superhero concepts with the films THE SPECIALS and SUPER. So it's no surprise that he is now bringing us a horrific take on Superman by producing the upcoming film BRIGHTBURN.

Set to reach theatres in just a few weeks, BRIGHTBURN was directed by David Yarovesky from a script written by Gunn's brother Brian Gunn and cousin Mark Gunn. Starring Elizabeth Banks, David Denman, Jackson A. Dunn, Matt Jones, Steve Agee, Becky Wahlstrom, Stephen Blackehart, and Meredith Hagner, the film has the following official synopsis:

A couple's prayers are seemingly answered when an object crash-lands on Earth, carrying a life-form that looks like a baby boy. As the years pass and the alien grows older, it starts to use its mysterious powers in sinister and destructive ways.

A new TV spot previews the terrible, creepy things BRIGHTBURN's little "evil Superman" will be getting up to in the film, with the imagery accompanied by the song "Bad Guy" by Billie Eilish.

James Gunn produced BRIGHTBURN with Kenneth Huang. The film is set to reach theatres on May 29th.
